Donald MacMillan

Donald Baxter MacMillan (1874-1970) was an American Arctic explorer, author, sailor, and educator who participated in Robert Peary's 1909 North Pole expedition and led over 30 expeditions to the Arctic over his 46-year career. He pioneered the use of radios, airplanes, electricity, and snowmobiles in the region, conducted ethnological studies of Inuit culture, and created dictionaries of Inuktitut. MacMillan authored books such as 'Four Years in the White North' (1918), 'Etah and Beyond' (1927), and 'How Peary Reached the North Pole' (1934), while also lecturing extensively and establishing schools for Eskimo children.
