Donald F. Montileaux
Donald F. Montileaux (Yellowbird), an enrolled member of the Oglala Lakota Nation, was born in 1948 on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and trained at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM, and Black Hills State College.[1][2][7] A renowned artist, illustrator, and modern-day storyteller, he depicts Lakota culture through his ledger-style paintings and has illustrated children's books while teaching art on reservations.[3][5][8] He graduated from Rapid City High School in 1966 and worked as an art teacher and museum aid early in his career.[1]
