Dick Francis
Richard Stanley Francis (1920–2010) was a British steeplechase jockey and prolific crime writer whose novels centered on horse racing. Son of a jockey, he won over 350 races, became Champion Jockey in 1953-54, and rode for Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, notably on Devon Loch in the 1956 Grand National. Retiring in 1957, he turned to writing, publishing his first mystery novel Dead Cert in 1962 and over 40 bestsellers thereafter.[1][2][4]
