Diana Barnato Walker

Diana Barnato Walker was a pioneering British aviator who served as one of the first women pilots in the Air Transport Auxiliary during World War II, delivering 260 Spitfires and flying 80 types of aircraft. In 1963, she became the first British woman to break the sound barrier, reaching Mach 1.6 in an English Electric Lightning T4 and setting a world air speed record for women. She was born in London and died in Surrey at the age of 90.
