Denise Levertov

Denise Levertov (1923–1997) was a British-born American poet, essayist, and political activist known for her deceptively matter-of-fact verse on personal, political, and spiritual themes.[1][2] Influenced by Black Mountain poets and the Vietnam War, she developed an open, experimental style, publishing over twenty volumes of poetry, and later embraced faith-inspired works.[3][4] She served as a nurse during World War II, moved to the US in 1948, became a naturalized citizen, and taught at Stanford University from 1981 to 1994.[2][6]
