David Mayer

David Mayer (1928–2023) was an American-British theatre historian and emeritus Professor of Drama at the University of Manchester, renowned for his extensive scholarship on nineteenth- and twentieth-century British and American popular entertainment, including pantomime and toga plays. He authored and edited numerous significant works such as 'Harlequin in His Element: English Pantomime, 1806–1836' and 'Playing Out the Empire: Ben-Hur and Other Toga-plays and Films'.
