David Martin
David Martin AM (1915–1997), born Lajos Detsinyi in Budapest into a Jewish family, was an Australian novelist, poet, playwright, journalist, editor, and literary reviewer who adopted his pen name after moving to England.[1][3] He worked as a feature writer and literary editor in London, published works like the novel Tiger Bay (1946) and poetry collection Battlefields and Girls (1942), and later settled in Australia, writing about migrant communities, travel, and children's literature.[1][3] In 1988, he was made a Member of the Order of Australia for services to literature and died in Beechworth, Victoria.[3]
