David I. Kertzer

David I. Kertzer is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, anthropologist, and historian, serving as the Paul Dupee, Jr. University Professor of Social Science and professor of anthropology and Italian studies at Brown University since 1992, where he also acted as provost from 2006 to 2011.[1][2][4] A Brown alumnus with an A.B. in 1969 and a Ph.D. in anthropology from Brandeis University in 1974, he previously taught at Bowdoin College and has authored numerous acclaimed books on Italian history, Vatican politics, and fascism, including The Pope and Mussolini, which won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Biography.[4][5] His works, such as The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara (National Book Award finalist) and The Popes Against the Jews, have been translated into multiple languages and earned him awards like the Marraro Prize and election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.[1][2][3]
