David George
David George was born enslaved in Essex County, Virginia, around 1742 to African parents and escaped multiple times from enslavement, including from a brutal enslaver at age 19 in 1762 or 1763, embarking on a decades-long odyssey across colonies, captivity among the Muscogee Creek nation, and survival through the American Revolution.[1][6] He established the first Black Baptist Church in America, emigrated to Sierra Leone in a British anti-slavery colony, and later recorded his oral testimony in London in 1792.[1][3]
