David Foster Wallace
David Foster Wallace was an acclaimed American writer and professor, widely known for his 1996 novel Infinite Jest, which Time magazine named one of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. He published numerous novels, short story collections, and essay collections that offered dense, satirical analyses of American culture, and he was awarded the MacArthur Fellowship. Wallace died by suicide on September 12, 2008, after struggling with depression for many years.
