David Bergman
David Bergman is an American poet, scholar, translator, and editor known for his formally adept poetry that explores personal history, queer sexuality, love, aging, and grace within mythic and political frames. He earned degrees from Kenyon College and Johns Hopkins University, taught at Towson University where he co-founded the cultural studies program and directed lesbian and gay studies, and has authored collections like Heroic Measures (1998), Cracking the Code (1985), Fortunate Light (2013), and Plain Sight (2024), for which he received the 2025 Towson Prize for Literature. His scholarly works include The Violet Hour (2004) and Gaiety Transfigured (1991), and he has edited significant volumes on gay literature while living in Baltimore, Maryland.
