Daniel James Brown

Daniel James Brown (born 1951) is an American author of narrative nonfiction books, best known for his #1 New York Times bestseller The Boys in the Boat, which chronicles the University of Washington rowing team's gold medal win at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, attended Diablo Valley College, UC Berkeley (BA in English, 1974), and UCLA (MA in English), taught writing at San Jose State and Stanford, worked as a technical writer and editor including at Microsoft, and now writes full-time focusing on compelling historical events. Other notable works include Facing the Mountain about Japanese-American WWII soldiers and The Indifferent Stars Above about the Donner Party.
