Damascene
John Damascene (also known as John of Damascus), born Yūḥana ibn Manṣūr ibn Sarjūn, was an 8th-century Christian monk, priest, hymnographer, and theologian born in Damascus around AD 675–676[1][9]. He is renowned as the last of the Eastern Church Fathers, a prolific writer on theology and philosophy, and one of the greatest poets of the Eastern Church, with hymns still used in liturgical practice today[1][2]. Tradition holds he died on December 4, AD 749, at the Mar Saba monastery near Jerusalem[1][9].
