D. Richardson

Robert D. Richardson (1934–2020) was an acclaimed American historian and biographer known for his works on Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and William James. His book Emerson: The Mind on Fire won the Francis Parkman Prize in 1996, and William James: In the Maelstrom of American Modernism received the Bancroft Prize in 2007. He taught English at Harvard and the University of Denver before pursuing a career as an independent scholar.
