Cynthia E. Carr
Cynthia Carr is an American writer and journalist known for her work on experimental performance art, having served as a columnist and arts reporter for The Village Voice from 1984 to 2003 under the byline C. Carr. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1972 with an honors degree in English and has authored acclaimed biographies including Fire in the Belly: The Life and Times of David Wojnarowicz (2012), winner of a Lambda Literary Award, Our Town (2007), and Candy Darling: Dreamer, Icon, Superstar (2024). A Guggenheim Fellow in 2007, she lives in New York and her writing has appeared in publications such as Artforum, The New York Times, and The Drama Review.
