Craig MacGowan

Craig McIntyre MacGowan was an extraordinary teacher, creative artist, and science educator who served as Science Department Chair at Garfield High School from 1978 to 1995, earning prestigious awards including the 1991 Washington State Golden Apple Award and multiple Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching. He designed and illustrated 41 Mac’s Field Guides for plant and wildlife identification, with over 1 million copies sold by Mountaineers Books. Born in Seattle, he participated in the Peace Corps in Liberia from 1965-1967 before passing away at home in Seattle from brain cancer on June 7, 2022.
