Michael Cowpland is the founder of Corel Corporation, a Canadian software company established in 1985 in Ottawa, Ontario, originally as Cowpland Research Laboratory. He holds a B.Sc. in engineering from Imperial College London, a master's degree, and a Ph.D. from Carleton University in Ottawa in 1973, and is recognized as a prominent Canadian entrepreneur and businessman. Under his leadership, Corel developed key software products including CorelDRAW, first created in 1987 by engineers Michel Bouillon and Pat Beirne.[1][2][3]
