Cilka Zagar
Cilka Žagar, born in 1939 in the Dolenjska region of Slovenia, completed Teachers College in Celje in 1960 and migrated to Australia in 1963.[1][2] She later earned BAs from universities in Perth, taught in places like Canberra, and moved to Lightning Ridge where she engaged with Aboriginal communities, editing works like Growing Up Walgett and authoring books on her experiences.[3][5][6] A prolific poet and writer, she has published numerous titles exploring migrant life, Australian history, and Indigenous stories, with some translated into Slovenian.[7][8][9]
