Christopher Meredith

Christopher Meredith (born 1954) is a Welsh poet, novelist, short story writer, and translator, best known for his debut novel Shifts (1988), regarded as a modern classic of post-industrial South Wales. Born and raised in Tredegar, he worked as a steelworker and schoolteacher before becoming Emeritus Professor of Creative Writing at the University of South Wales, and now lives in Brecon, writing full-time. His awards include the Eric Gregory Award, Arts Council of Wales Young Writer Prize, and Fiction Prize.
