Chris Santella was a freelance writer and marketing consultant based in Portland, Oregon, best known for authoring over 19 books in the 'Fifty Places' series, such as Fifty Places to Fly Fish Before You Die and Fifty Places to Play Golf Before You Die.[2][6] A frequent contributor to publications like The New York Times and Fly Rod & Reel, he was passionate about fly fishing, music, and travel.[2][6] Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on April 3, 1963, and adopted shortly after, he passed away on May 23, 2024, at age 61 from a rare cancer diagnosed in 2023.[1][7]
