Charlotte Zolotow
Charlotte Zolotow (born Charlotte Gertrude Shapiro) was an acclaimed American author, poet, editor, and publisher of children's books, writing over 70 picture books and editing works by authors like Paul Zindel and Maurice Sendak. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1915, she began her career at Harper & Brothers in 1938, later heading her own imprint, Charlotte Zolotow Books, and addressing themes like death, loneliness, and family in her compassionate stories. She died in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, in 2013 at age 98.[1][2][4]
