Charles Gould

Charles Newton Gould (1868-1947), known as the 'Father of Oklahoma Geology,' was a pioneering geologist who taught at the University of Oklahoma from 1900, organized its geology department, and served as the first director of the Oklahoma Geological Survey from 1908 to 1911 and again from 1924 to 1931. He conducted the first geological reconnaissance across Oklahoma, published over 251 reports, discovered major oil fields, and authored books including *Oklahoma Place Names*, *Geography of Oklahoma*, and his autobiography *Covered Wagon Geologist*.[1][3]
