Charles Davis

Charles Augustus Davis was a 19th-century New York writer and satirist known for his anti-Jacksonian political humor and his pen name J. Downing, Major. He was associated with Whig circles and also took part in civic efforts, including work related to New York's fire department after the 1835 fire.
