Chares Brockden Brown
Charles Brockden Brown (1771-1810) was an American novelist, historian, and essayist, often regarded as the first professional author in the United States. He is renowned for his Gothic novels, including 'Wieland' (1798) and 'Edgar Huntly' (1799), which blend psychological suspense with social and political critique. His work left a lasting mark on the development of American literature.
