Chantal Kalisa
Chantal Kalisa was an associate professor of French and director of the Women’s and Gender Studies program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Born in the Republic of Burundi, she earned her doctorate from the University of Iowa in 1999 and joined UNL in 2001, specializing in global women’s rights, transnational feminism, women’s literature, African colonial and post-colonial violence against women, and the Rwandan genocide. Her notable book, 'Violence in Francophone African and Caribbean Women's Literature,' was published in 2009; she died suddenly in 2015 at age 50.
