Carnegie

Andrew Carnegie (1835–1919) was a Scottish-American industrialist who led the expansion of the American steel industry in the late 19th century and became one of the richest Americans in history. After selling his steel company to J.P. Morgan in 1901, he dedicated his life to philanthropic endeavors, giving away over $350 million and establishing institutions like Carnegie-Mellon University. He was also an author, publishing works including *The Gospel of Wealth* (1900), which argued that the wealthy have a moral obligation to give away their fortunes for the benefit of the community.
