Carl T. Rowan

Carl T. Rowan (1925–2000) was a pioneering American journalist, author, and government official who broke racial barriers as one of the first African American officers in the U.S. Navy and later served as the highest-ranking African American in the U.S. government. He authored six books, won multiple Emmys and the Peabody Award, and held key roles including director of the U.S. Information Agency and U.S. Ambassador to Finland.
