Carl Mehling is a paleontologist and Senior Scientific Assistant (also referred to as Senior Museum Specialist) at the American Museum of Natural History since 1990, managing the world's largest collection of dinosaur fossils, early synapsids, tetrapods, pterosaurs, crocodiles, turtles, marine reptiles, fossil amphibians, reptiles, birds, and plants.[1][2] He holds a B.A. from the University of California Santa Cruz (1993) and has written or edited numerous scholarly and popular pieces on fossils, with 29 books listed on Goodreads including the popular 'Dinosaurs'.[1][2][3] His interests include fringe paleontology topics like bizarre fossil preservation, anomalous discoveries, and historical oddities, and he actively collects fossils globally.[1]
