Isabella Stewart Gardner was an American art collector and philanthropist. She amassed a significant collection of art and artifacts, which she bequeathed to the city of Boston to establish the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The museum, designed to resemble a 15th-century Venetian palace, opened to the public in 1903.
