Larry Gonick is an American cartoonist and mathematician best known for The Cartoon History of the Universe, a multi-volume graphic history of the world published from 1978 to 2009. He has pioneered the use of comics to convey complex ideas in science and social science, authoring or co-authoring 16 books including numerous "Cartoon Guides" to subjects like genetics, statistics, algebra, and physics. His work has earned major awards including a Harvey Award and an Eisner Award.
