Elizabeth A. McAlister is a Professor of Religion and African American Studies at Wesleyan University specializing in Afro-Caribbean religions, particularly Haitian Vodou, Pentecostalism, and transnational migration. She is best known for her ethnographic work on Rara, a religious musical festival in Haiti, documented in her book and CD published by the University of California Press in 2002. Her current scholarship focuses on American evangelical missionaries, spiritual warfare, and what she terms 'aggressive forms of prayer.'
