Alvin Halpern was a physicist and author born in Atlanta, Georgia, who earned his PhD in Physics from Columbia University in 1965 and had a distinguished career as a Professor of Physics at Brooklyn College and the Graduate School of CUNY, including research in atomic physics and administrative roles such as Interim President of the Research Foundation of CUNY. He authored physics textbooks like '3000 Solved Problems in Physics' and 'Beginning Physics I' in Schaum’s Series, as well as plays such as 'Created Equal' (1982) and 'A Woman’s Work is Never Done' (1984). Halpern retired in 2001, moved to San Diego in 2010 with his wife Mariarosa, and passed away peacefully at age 90 on August 13, 2020.
