Burton Holmes

Burton Holmes (Elias Burton Holmes) was an American traveler, photographer, filmmaker, and lecturer who pioneered the 'travelogue' by combining travel stories, slide shows, and motion pictures into documentary travel lectures. Born in Chicago in 1870, he spent 60 years traveling the world and creating travelogues that showcased what the average tourist wanted to see. He is widely remembered as America's leading globe-trotter-lecturer and a key figure in early documentary filmmaking.
