Bruce Elder

R. Bruce Elder (born June 12, 1947) is a Canadian filmmaker, critic, and professor of Film Studies at Ryerson University, renowned as one of Canada's foremost avant-garde filmmakers. Described by Jonas Mekas as the most important North American avant-garde filmmaker to emerge in the 1980s, he combines images, music, and text in works exploring philosophy, technology, science, spirituality, and the human body. Elder has written extensively on film, music, poetry, and visual arts, curated festivals, and holds a background in applied mathematics and computer science.
