Brent E. Newton
Brent Evan Newton is an American legal scholar, attorney, and professor who served as Deputy Staff Director at the United States Sentencing Commission from 2009 to early 2019 and has taught as a professor of law at institutions including Penn State Dickinson Law, Georgetown University Law Center, and American University Washington College of Law. Prior to that, he worked as a public defender for nearly two decades, representing death row inmates in Texas and Florida, and clerked for a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit after graduating from Columbia Law School. He is the author of three books and numerous law review articles, and was elected to the American Law Institute in 2010.[1][2][5]
