Bob Aitken

Robert Baker Aitken (1917-2010) was a prominent American Zen Buddhist teacher, author, and founder of the Diamond Sangha in Honolulu in 1959 with his wife Anne Hopkins Aitken. Introduced to Zen during World War II internment in Japan under R.H. Blyth's influence, he earned a BA in English literature and an MA in Japanese studies from the University of Hawaii. Aitken authored over ten books on Zen, including 'A Zen Wave' and 'Taking the Path of Zen', and received dharma transmission in 1972.
