Betty Miles

Betty Miles (1928-2018) was an American author and educator who wrote over thirty books for children and young adults. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she graduated from Antioch College and worked as a publications associate and teacher at Bank Street College of Education in New York, where she pioneered diversity in children's literature through editing The Bank Street Readers. Her novels, including The Trouble with Thirteen, The Real Me, and Maudie and Me and The Dirty Book, addressed girls' experiences and personal growth with humor and clear-eyed realism.
