Barbara Else

Barbara Else is a New Zealand author born in 1947 in Invercargill, known for her distinctive work characterized by subversive humour and sharp observation. She has written seven novels for adults and seven for children, along with plays, short stories, and edited multiple children's anthologies. She holds the Prime Minister's Award for Fiction 2025 and the Margaret Mahy Medal for lifetime achievement in children's literature.
