Barbara Boswell

Barbara Boswell is a South African novelist, critic, and Associate Professor of English Literary Studies at the University of Cape Town, where she serves as Head of the Department and specializes in African women’s writing, Black diasporic feminist writing, queer theory, and postcolonial studies.[1][2] Born in Cape Town, she holds an MPhil in Gender and Women’s Studies from the University of the Western Cape and a PhD in Women’s Studies from the University of Maryland, and has authored works including the award-winning novel Grace (2017), The Comrade’s Wife (2024), and the monograph And Wrote My Story Anyway (2020).[1][2][5] A former Fulbright and ACLS Fellow, she has taught at universities in Virginia, Maryland, and Witwatersrand, and maintains an active presence in feminist scholarship as a board member of journals like Agenda and Imbiza.[1]
