Barbara Ballinger ,

Barbara Ballinger was a renowned library director who served as head of the Oak Park Public Library system for 32 years from 1958 until her retirement in 1991, after earning her master's in library science from the University of Illinois. Born in 1925 in Miami, Oklahoma, she began her career at the Oklahoma City Public Library, drove a bookmobile in Topeka, and became a key figure in community organizations including the Ernest Hemingway Foundation. A lover of poetry and literature, she spearheaded library collaborations leading to the SWAN network and passed away at age 97 on November 14, 2022.[1]
