Avery Dulles

Avery Robert Dulles (August 24, 1918 – December 12, 2008) was an American Jesuit priest, theologian, and cardinal of the Catholic Church, widely regarded as the most influential American Catholic theologian of the 20th century[1][6]. He was created a cardinal by Pope John Paul II in 2001, becoming the first English-speaking theologian to receive this honor without being a bishop since John Henry Newman[1][5]. Dulles served as a professor at Fordham University from 1988 until his death and was known internationally as a writer and educator[7][10].
