Augustus Neander

Augustus Neander, originally named David Mendel, was a German theologian and church historian born in Göttingen on January 17, 1789, who converted from Judaism to Christianity and adopted the name Neander ('New Man') in 1806[1][2]. He became a prominent professor of church history at Heidelberg and Berlin, and his principal work was the 'General History of the Christian Religion and Church'[1][3].
