Augusten Burroughs
Augusten Burroughs, born Christopher Richter Robison on October 23, 1965, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an American writer renowned for his New York Times bestselling memoir Running with Scissors (2002), which chronicles his unconventional childhood marked by his parents' alcoholism, mental illness, and his placement with a psychiatrist.[1][2][3] After a successful career as an advertising copywriter in New York and San Francisco, he left the industry to focus on writing, producing additional bestsellers like Dry, Magical Thinking, and A Wolf at the Table, with his works published in over 30 countries and selling more than 10 million copies.[3][5] In 2013, he married his literary agent Christopher Schelling and received a Lambda Literary Award and an honorary Doctorate of Letters.[3][5]
