Arthur Wiechmann

Carl Ernst Arthur Wichmann was a German geologist and author born in Hamburg, who earned his Ph.D. from Leipzig in 1874 and served as Professor of Geology at Utrecht University from 1879 to 1921. He conducted expeditions to the Dutch East Indies starting in 1888/89, authoring key geological papers and a valuable history of New Guinea exploration; the Wichmann Mountains were named in his honor.
