Arthur Edward Waite

Arthur Edward Waite (1857–1942) was a British poet, author, and occultist born in Brooklyn, New York, to an American father and English mother, who moved to England after his father's death.[1][2][3] He was a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Freemasons, and Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia, later founding the Fellowship of the Rosy Cross in 1915, and is best known for co-creating the Rider-Waite Tarot deck with Pamela Colman Smith.[1][2][3] Waite wrote extensively on esotericism, mysticism, Freemasonry, Kabbalah, and alchemy, including 'A New Encyclopedia of Freemasonry' in 1921.[2][3]
