Armando Valladares
Armando Valladares is a Cuban poet, writer, and human rights advocate who was imprisoned for 22 years in Castro's Cuba as a political dissident. After his release in 1982, he emigrated to the United States and served as U.S. Ambassador to the UN Commission on Human Rights from 1988 to 1990. He is the author of the memoir 'Against All Hope,' which details his harrowing experiences in prison.
