Aphra Behn
Aphra Behn (c. 1640–1689) was an English playwright, poet, and novelist who became the first woman in England to earn her living by writing, breaking cultural barriers during the Restoration era. She is best known for her risqué plays like 'The Rover' and her philosophical novel 'Oroonoko,' which explores themes of race, gender, and colonialism. Despite facing scandal and criticism for her gender and bold works, she remained a respected figure in literary circles and a role model for future female authors.
