Anurima Banerji
Anurima Banerji is an Associate Professor in the Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance at UCLA and a trained Odissi classical dancer. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, she holds a Ph.D. in Performance Studies from New York University and is the author of the poetry collection Night Artillery (2000) and the monograph Dancing Odissi: Paratopic Performances of Gender and State (2019), which won the prestigious de la Torre Bueno Prize. Her research focuses on critical historicizations of Indian dance and its relationship to the state, informed by postcolonialism, critical race theory, feminist and queer philosophy.
