Anton Powell

Christopher Anton Powell (1947-2020) was a prominent British classicist and self-made scholar who revolutionized the study of ancient Sparta through his foundational works like Athens and Sparta and the editorship of the Wiley-Blackwell Companion to Sparta. He founded the International Sparta Seminar, published extensively on Greek history, Athens, Sparta, and the literature of the Roman Revolution, and served as Invited Professor at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris.[1][2][4][5][8]
