Anton J. L. van Hooff

Antonius Jacobus Leonardus (Anton) van Hooff, born in 1943 in The Hague, Netherlands, is a Dutch historian of antiquity, author, and former docent at Radboud University Nijmegen until 2008.[1][2] He specializes in classical antiquity, authoring books such as *Nero & Seneca*, *Athene*, and *Marcus Aurelius*, and chaired the freethinkers association De Vrije Gedachte from 2009 to 2015.[1][2] An atheist and republican, he regularly publishes in newspapers and magazines on ancient history topics.[1]
